Jokigen Junmai Ginjo "Rice Label"
The nose on this sake is a superb “fruit basket” collection of peach, plum, apricot, mango, lemon-lime, grape, cantaloupe, pineapple, and kiwi aromas. Chewy, crisp, bright, and lively, this brew is as wild and fruity on the palate as it is on the nose. There is a nice weight to the fluid that also has a crispness and an edginess that appeals to wine drinkers. Look for honeydew, papaya, pear, tart cherry, caramel apple, white chocolate, brown sugar, graham cracker, Granny Smith, spices, and a hint of pink peppercorn flavors that jump all around the palate. A very nice Yamagata-style sake that is flavorful and fun when chilled in a white wine glass. WORD: Crisp WINE: Bright Reds/Fruity Whites BEER: Crisp Ales FOODS: Sushi, sashimi, shellfish, cheeses, ponzu-based dishes, oysters with lemon, chicken on a stick, and grilled white fish.
