Beau Zone Layer – Sougen “Pride of the Samurai”
Beau Zone Layer – Sougen “Pride of the Samurai”
From Ishikawa Prefecture. Junmai. SMV: +2.5 Acidity: 1.8
Who wants to talk about a superb sake that crashes through the doors of proof that sake goes with big birds and other wild game? Sougen is one of those pure breed sakes that is a sake drinker’s sake. It is a Junmai with impeccable balance and finesse. This sake is a guide for those who want to know what “true” Junmai sake should taste like. It is a true Junmai. And this sake also was the favorite of one of my sake idols who recently passed away. He was the founder of Okanaga in Japan and single handedly started the “Jizake” movement in Japan, where small breweries had their sakes featured all over Japan instead of just their prefectures. He was a visionary and a friend and he truly had the pride of the Samurai in him! This sake will be on my table at Thanksgiving. (Xmas Too!) To honor him and to honor sake.
